Rangeley Maine Lakefront Cabins...

The Rangeley Region has a rich tradition of providing guests with simple but comfortable accommodations that serve as a base for exploring and enjoying the fantastic array of natural resources found in the surrounding area. Through the rebuilding of Niboban Camps, we seek to ensure that this tradition will continue into the 21st century.

Niboban Camps are located in Rangeley Plantation on the south shore of Rangeley Lake adjacent to Rangeley Lake State Park. Our camp location overlooking the lake and the western Maine mountains encompasses 58 acres of land with 3000' of shore frontage. This private location has walking trails and snowmobile trails, with plenty of room for outdoor activities. The waters off our shore have produced trophy trout and landlocked salmon over the years. Guests can venture further afield for more challenging hikes and mountain climbs, or to fish in any of the nearby lakes, ponds and streams.

It was nearly 100 years ago when Major Duncan B. Harrison first built a set of sporting camps named Ethelwald on the present site of our Nibòban Camps. Although our construction is new, we have made every effort to duplicate the rustic simplicity of the old-time Maine sporting camps. We offer eight new, pet-friendly cabins, situated about 100' from the shore. Each cabin is comfortably set up for light housekeeping, with full kitchen facilities, two separate bedrooms, a full bath and combination living room/dining room. All cabins have electric power and automatic heat. A spacious screened-in porch overlooking the lake is much appreciated during black-fly season, although they rarely bother since there is usually a slight breeze to keep them away. (Major Harrison's early brochure advertised "no mosquitoes or malaria" and offered hunting for caribou, moose, deer and partridge.) We are glad to report that we can still say there is no malaria in the Rangeley Region. Unfortunately, the caribou migrated north soon after the turn of the last century, never to return, however we can still offer moose, deer and partridge hunting and an "occasional" mosquito. Relax and enjoy the peaceful solitude here on the porch with your early morning coffee, while you plan a day of fishing, hiking, bird watching or just plain re-charging your batteries...all without the intrusion of phones, television or deadlines! All linens, blankets, pillows, towels and cooking utensils are provided.

Our special "honeymoon" cabin is tucked back into the woods, built just for two with efficiency kitchen, common room, bedroom with queen bed, full bath with 2-person Jacuzzi and screened porch with a view of the lake.

Guests can gather in the lodge for a game of ping-pong...or some might enjoy quieter activities such as the "always in progress" jig saw puzzle, board games, or browsing through our eclectic selection of paperback books for easy reading.

Rangeley Village is 7 miles away via paved road, where you will find a full array of services including grocery and hardware stores, gas stations, banks, many fine gift shops and restaurants, and a full service marina, pharmacy, post office, movie theater and library. For the more adventurous, it is 2 to 3 miles across the lake via boat, with a public dock at the Town Park. There is also a State ramp/dock at Oquossoc. Oquossoc Village is located approximately 7 miles away in the opposite direction via gravel and paved roads. There you will find a grocery store, farmer's market, gas station, sports shop, post office, full service marina and two restaurants.

We hope you will enjoy your stay at Nibòban Camps. Whether you come to fish, hunt, hike or just plain relax, our wonderful Rangeley Lakes Region is the place to be during all seasons of the year!
